Chicago Midway International Airport

Aerial Photography Collections by Toby Harriman

Captured from the air over Chicago’s southwest side, this series by Toby Harriman highlights Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) from a unique fine art perspective. Photographed via helicopter in coordination with local air traffic control, the collection reveals the geometry, texture, and movement that define one of America’s most historic and efficiently designed urban airports.

From the distinctive cross-shaped runway layout to the constant rhythm of arriving and departing aircraft, each image reflects Midway’s balance between city and sky. The surrounding neighborhoods and street grids create a visual harmony that connects the airport to the heart of Chicago’s landscape.

Part of Harriman’s Aerial Gateways series, the Chicago Midway International Airport collection continues his documentation of major aviation hubs across the United States, blending structure, motion, and light into a visual study of flight and design.
