Aerial Photography Collections by Toby Harriman
Captured from the air above the California coast, this series by Toby Harriman showcases San Diego International Airport (SAN) and the aircraft that define its constantly moving landscape. Photographed via helicopter in coordination with the San Diego Tower, these images reveal the precision and geometry of one of America’s most distinctive single-runway airports.
From commercial jets on final approach over the city to ground crews preparing flights beneath the coastal marine layer, each frame captures the relationship between aviation, architecture, and light. The work also highlights the airlines that shape San Diego’s daily rhythm, offering a visual study of motion, infrastructure, and design from a rarely seen perspective.
Part of Harriman’s ongoing exploration of airport systems and aerial perspectives, this series continues his documentation of America’s major aviation gateways, blending art, engineering, and the choreography of flight.
